USDA Increases Quarantine & Inspection Service Fees

In an interim rule, the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced that fees charged for certain a= gricultural quarantine and inspection services will increase approximately 10 percent by October 1, 2009.  In particula= r, fees will increase for commercial vessels, trucks, railroad cars, and aircr= afts arriving at US ports of entry, as follows:

 

·         Commercial vessels—from $494 to $544

·         Commercial trucks—from $5.25 to $6 for single border crossings, from $105 to $120 for a transponder=

·         Commercial railroad cars—from $ 7.75 to $8.75

·         Commercial aircraft—from $70.50 to $78

 

APHIS states that the increased fees are needed because, although travel volumes = have decreased, expenses have not decreased accordingly.  Comments are due by November 27, 2= 009.
