The three largest Japanese ocean carriers, NYK, K-Line, and MOL announced a merger, which will create the sixth largest player in the ocean shipping business. Meanwhile, vessel sharing agreements (such as THE Alliance, the OCEAN Alliance, and the anticipated H2M Alliance) will provide more sailing schedule and trade lane options for shippers and, hopefully, increased financial stability for the carriers.
