DERINGER EMPLOYEES TAKE ACTION TO HELP KATRINA VICTIMS

SAINT ALBANS, VT, September 14, 2005: With clean-up efforts well under way in the wake of the destruction from Hurricane Katrina, Deringer employees continue to coordinate their efforts to assist victims in numerous ways. From offices and communities around the country, Deringer employees have found creative ways to help the ongoing and enormous humanitarian effort.

In Highgate, Vermont, a customer donated twenty cases of lotions and soaps, which an employee drove to a Red Cross drop off site. In addition, the branch conducted raffles and bottle drives to raise cash. In Buffalo, New York, the local Deringer branch not only contributed to their office’s donation, but also items to a local radio drive called "Labor of Love." The Port Huron, Michigan office donated 40 cases of water to a local trucking company that sent a semi-trailer to the disaster area. In Portal, North Dakota, the Deringer branch offered their warehouse as a drop off point for the area. Deringer's Detroit/Romulus, Michigan branch donated items, which were sent to 200 evacuees that came to the city for refuge. A raffle was held at the Sweetgrass, Montana branch to raise funds, while in Ogdensburg, New York, on the US-Canadian border, employees arranged shipments from Canada for anyone providing donations to the stricken area. A Deringer truck was volunteered to free haul the supplies from Ottawa to the US.

At Deringer's headquarters, in St. Albans, Vermont employees ushered in a week’s worth of fund raising events, including buying the right to wear jeans and shorts to work, collecting monetary donations, as well as gathering nonperishable food items and clothing. Furthermore, the corporation donated a significant amount to the statewide effort that netted $110,000 for the victims of Katrina.

Melisande Mayotte, Secretary and Corporate Director of Human Resources & Administration, stated: "There are no words for what has happened to the communities in and around New Orleans, the states of Louisiana and Mississippi, and the South. Perhaps it is a good thing that words cannot express our deep concern, because now is the time for action and support of our fellow people. As a company, we feel we must do something. This is an incredible tragedy and one that we must try to affect. Our stomachs are tight, our eyes filled with tears, and our hearts pounding out of concern for others."
