Major steamship lines have advised of an intended 2019 GRI for all eastbound cargo moving from the Far East and India to the US and Canada. The GRI comes directly before the congestion of Chinese New Year, which occurs in early February and often lasts for several weeks.
Over the last few months, imports have been high with accelerated shipments in advance of additional US tariffs on Chinese goods. Analysts are speculating conditions for the ocean container shipping market, but the announcement of a GRI could be a bellwether.
The below GRIs are proposed for January 1, 2019.
USD 900 per 20’ container
USD 1,000 per 40’ container
USD 1,125 per 40’ high cube container
USD 1,266 per 45’ container
USD 20.00 per w/m., min USD 20.00 for LCL shipments
