The inbound US air freight market is experiencing an especially busy peak shipping season. High demand of air cargo to nearly all destinations has resulted in fully overbooked flights, including overbooked consolidations. Additional capacity is primarily only available for increased rates and increased express rates.
Many airlines require more time to respond to rate and space inquiries. Further, partners around the globe are experiencing troubles resulting from and contributing to overcapacity.
- At some airlines, only requests for cargo that are 500KG+ are being quoted, and all other weight breaks are being referred to standard rate sheets
- Other airlines are unable to respond to emails or feedback because they are experiencing difficulties with their ground handling agents
- Truck deliveries and pick-ups have been delayed as well with no chance of same day pick-up on short notice
- In Germany, an anticipated Ver.di Union labor strike has resulted in cargo not being delivered on time and import freight not positioned for pick-up
