Cargo insurance is secured by shippers to protect their goods from loss, damage, or theft while in transit; under some policies, cargo insurance provides coverage against liability as well (such as general average). Often, goods are insured while being stored and while in transit, until they reach the buyer; however, there are different types of cargo insurance that provide an array of coverage.
