A fee charged to prepare a “shippers export declaration” on behalf of a customer. This term, when capitalized (often abbreviated “SED”), refers to the particular U.S. Bureau of the Census paper form titled “Shipper’s Export Declaration” which is filed with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. An SED is not required for shipments whose ultimate destination is Canada, nor for most shipments to most countries valued under US$2500. However, for certain destination countries, and for shipments subject to an export license or license exception, an SED, or its electronic equivalent, the AES record, is required.
