Currently, shippers are experiencing delays in the movement of their freight into the Ports of Montreal and Halifax. Several factors are contributing to the delays, such as congestion, increased on-dock dwell times, and driver shortages.
The ports have provided these metrics:
- Montreal: Published average dwell time is 5.5 days during March, but containers have waited up to 14 days to load on rail.
- Halifax: Dwell times are 3.4 and 3.8 days for their Fairview Cove and South End terminals. However, increased volume from Montreal re-routings has bumped up dwell times to as many as seven or eight days.
Please take into consideration the unexpected delays. Deringer will continue to monitor the congestion in and around Montreal and Halifax. If you have questions regarding a specific shipment, please contact us.
