Beginning on October 13, 2020, users will find changes in the Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system. A new field will require users to indicate the country of melt and pour on all standard licenses (regardless of country of origin). On this date, SIMA will also be updated for the first time in ten years, which will include new features, including users’ ability to manage their accounts.
The current system will be unavailable after October 10, 2020, as it transitions to “legacy” status and records are moved to the new system. In the event of an urgent situation, the Department of Commerce has indicated manual steel license applications will be accepted from October 10-12.
Additional information on the new SIMA, including videos, new license samples, and FAQS are available on the International Trade Administration website. The SIMA team has provided an email address (steel.license@trade.gov) for questions as well.
