A strike at India’s largest container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT; Nhava Sheva), ended over the weekend. The strike began May 9, 2018, over a government-controlled transport solution that went into effect May 1st. The solution, called the direct port delivery (DPD) program, grants exclusive rights to four third-party logistics (3PLs) companies to handle import freight at the port. Politicians have halted the program until the Supreme Court decides on a petition regarding the matter.
The four-day strike caused roadway congestion around the port. If you have concerns about a specific shipment, please contact one of our service centers.
