The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has finalized modifications to the tariff actions on China following a four-year statutory review. These changes aim to protect American businesses and workers from unfair trade practices by the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
Key Updates:
- Tariff Increases: New rates and timings for tariffs on face masks, medical gloves, needles, and syringes.
- Exclusions: Enteral syringes and ship-to-shore cranes ordered before May 14, 2024, are excluded.
- Additional Coverage: New proposals for tariffs on tungsten, wafers, and polysilicon.
- Machinery Exclusions: Expanded to include five additional tariff lines.
- Solar Manufacturing Equipment: Modified coverage for proposed exclusions.
These updates follow the review of over 1,100 public comments and aim to enhance the effectiveness of the tariff actions. The USTR will soon launch the machinery exclusions process and open a comment period for proposed tariff modifications.
