The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed Section 301 tariffs of up to 100% on French goods. The action comes in response to France’s Digital Service Tax (DST), which the USTR has found to be unreasonable and restricting US commerce. The tariff would affect a list of 63 tariff subheadings, including yogurt, butter, sparkling wine, handbags, make-up, porcelain tableware, enameled cast-iron, and other goods found in chapters 4, 33, 34, 42, 69, and 73.
Public comments regarding the proposed list of products, level of duty, and burden associated with the DST are due by January 6, 2020. A public hearing will be held on January 7, 2020. For information about submitting comments or to review the list of goods, visit USTR’s announcement.
