(U.S. Customs & Border Protection & Border Protection) Permission from Customs to remove goods to the importer’s premises, obtained by filing an application for special permit for immediate delivery on a CF 3461. Distinguished from a regular Customs release by the fact that in an immediate delivery procedure, goods remain under Customs custody. In the past, this term was used in reference to standard Customs release (I.D. release) based on filing of a CF3461 pending follow up of a Customs entry summary. This procedure is now called Customs entry. The distinction is that when filing an “entry,” goods are released from Customs custody, and when filing “special permit for immediate delivery” (generally used in special cases, such as perishable merchandise and trade fairs) goods remain in Customs custody but delivery is permitted. In both cases, these are privileges which may be lost if the importer repeatedly fails to meet subsequent requirements.
