On October 9, 2024, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) issued an update regarding import restrictions on avian commodities from Canada due to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). As of October 4, 2024, restrictions on PCZ-219 in Saskatchewan have been lifted, and there are currently no restricted zones in Canada. Consequently, all HPAI-related import restrictions on avian products from Canada have been removed.
However, zoo birds from Canada still require a health certificate from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and an import permit.
Pet birds from Canada no longer need an import permit or health certificate if entering through a land border port, but those transiting from the lower 48 States to Alaska require a permit without a health certificate.
Products containing cooked egg no longer require a health or veterinary certificate for entry into the U.S. Instead, these products will only require that proof of origin be provided on shipment documents.
