Effective immediately, the USDA’s APHIS has updated its list of restricted zones in Canada for importing certain avian commodities due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The restricted zones are:
- PCZ 236 in British Columbia
- PCZ 237 in British Columbia
Importation of poultry, commercial birds, ratites, avian hatching eggs, unprocessed avian products and byproducts, and certain fresh poultry products from these zones is prohibited. Maps of the restricted zones are available on the CFIA website. APHIS will lift restrictions once zones meet the World Organization for Animal Health criteria for HPAI-free status.
All pet birds, zoo birds, and Columbiformes must have a CFIA-endorsed health certificate. Specific import permits and quarantine requirements apply based on the mode of entry and origin. Processed avian products and byproducts must meet APHIS treatment requirements and be accompanied by appropriate permits and certifications. Unprocessed avian products for personal use or in passenger baggage from all of Canada are not permitted to enter the U.S.
Fully finished, non-shelf stable and/or non-commercially packaged and labeled food products containing pasteurized egg/egg product ingredients, originating from or transiting all of Canada must be accompanied by an APHIS import permit.
