Canada’s Labor Minister, Steve MacKinnon, has initiated talks to prevent a potential rail strike that could significantly disrupt the supply chain. The discussions involve Canadian National Railway Co., Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd., and the union representing their workers. These negotiations, which had been stalled for months, are set to resume on Wednesday. The union, representing nearly 10,000 workers, aims to speed up the discussions to avoid a work stoppage. Federal mediators are also participating in the talks.
A strike could begin three days after the Canada Industrial Relations Board’s ruling on August 9, which will assess the impact of a service interruption on health and safety.
A.N. Deringer, Inc. will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
