Yesterday, President Trump’s announcement on Truth Social regarding the hike in duty rates from 25% to 50% for Canadian steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. did not take effect as anticipated.
As of last night, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed that the Commerce Secretary has authorized the collection of a 25% import duty on specific steel and aluminum products and their derivatives from all countries. This took effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12.
