More than 9,000 workers from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) have paused their strike as negotiations with the government continue with the help of a mediator until June 12th, 2024 to secure a fair contract.
Mark Weber, Customs and Immigration Union National President, is hopeful that a both parties can reach an agreement and they will be able to avoid disruption at Canada’s border. “Our members are essential – protecting our borders, preventing auto theft and stopping illegal drugs and firearms from entering Canada – and they deserve a fair contract that treats them with respect and dignity in line with other law enforcement agencies across the country,” he explains.
As mediations move into next week, all strike activities have been postponed and a new strike deadline will be set within the next few days.
A.N. Deringer, Inc. will continue to monitor the situation.
