The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided resources for importers to solidify their compliance standing within the requirements of the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) final rule, including a list of records required under the regulation. The rule requires importers to “develop, implement, and maintain” an FSVP, which includes “verification activities and records” of each imported food product from each foreign supplier.
The FDA has provided a list of records required under FSVP. The list is not relevant to every shipment type, and importers will need to determine if the goods are subject to an exemption, standard or modified FSVP requirements. Examples of questions included are:
- What foreign supplier verification program (FSVP) must I have?
- What hazard analysis must I conduct?
- What evaluation for foreign supplier approval and verification must I conduct?
Some factors impact the mandatory compliance dates for the regulation. These dates depend on the size and nature of the foreign importer and if the foreign supplier is required to meet Preventive Controls for Human Food, Preventive Controls for Animal Food, or the Produce Safety regulations.
