Rail service on CN’s mainline through Jasper, Alberta, has been suspended due to the wildfires. This line is crucial for transporting cargo to and from the port. The situation is dynamic, with emergency services prioritizing the safety of people and structures. CN is currently inspecting tracks and rail assets to assess the necessary restoration work in the affected area. The duration of the closure in Jasper is currently unknown.
CPKC and CN railways are working together to reroute CN trains over CPKC tracks between Calgary, Alberta, and Kamloops, B.C. Both railways have also deployed specialized fire suppression equipment and crews, along with other fire mitigation efforts.
Transport Canada’s Supply Chain Office is holding regular calls with stakeholders to provide updates, support response efforts, and understand the economic impacts to aid future recovery.
