The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has announced a new 25% Section 301 tariff on certain goods imported from Brazil. The additional duties will apply to covered products entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, beginning 12:01 a.m. ET on July 22, 2026.
According to USTR, the action follows an investigation into several Brazilian trade practices that the U.S. determined place an unreasonable burden on U.S. commerce. USTR also noted that extensive public comments and discussions with the Brazilian government were considered before the decision was made.
Additional details are available in the Federal Register notice, including a list of covered products and applicable HTS classifications.
The notice also contains a list of products that will be excluded from the additional duties, including:
• Raw materials for which additional tariffs could lead to insufficient domestic supply;
• Products that could cause broader economic disruption if subject to the tariffs;
• Products that cannot be grown or manufactured in sufficient quantities, at reasonable prices, in the United States or sourced from alternative suppliers; and
• Articles for which the tariffs may not meaningfully contribute to addressing the trade practices identified in the investigation.
