Ports in India and Australia brace for disruptions due to impending port strikes.
After long-running pay negotiations failed to reach an agreement, dockworkers across 12 of India’s largest ports have declared an indefinite strike beginning on August 28th . The previous pay contract expired in December 2021. Over the last three years, wage negotiations have not yielded a result.
Additionally, there is the prospect of a strike at Western Australia’s largest container and cargo port, Fremantle. The strike is currently scheduled to run for 48 hours next week. Port officials warn that no vessel movements will be possible during that time as pilot boat operators and vessel traffic service officers will be on strike. The Fremantle port strike is regarding wage negotiation as well.
These disturbances may impact cargo movement, leading to delays, increased costs, and congestion.
A. N. Deringer, Inc. is closely monitoring the situation and will maintain close communication with our customers to manage any potential disruptions.
