Announced on December 22nd, with immediate effect, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) mandates that importers self-certify seafood imports. This directive, as outlined in the Executive Order, prohibits the importation of products into the United States that include fish and seafood sourced from the Russian Federation. This includes items harvested in waters under Russian jurisdiction or by vessels flagged by Russia, irrespective of the country-of-origin label.
Quoting directly from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) press release:
“CBP’s enforcement of this Executive Order ensures prohibited seafood products from the Russian Federation are prevented from entering American markets,” said CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner Troy A. Miller. “Importers of seafood need to do their part by practicing due diligence over their supply chains to ensure their products do not contain components originating from the Russian Federation.”
