On January 15, 2021, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) issued a press release announcing that the US would not impose Section 301 tariffs on Vietnam imports. The news follows a Section 301 investigation regarding “Vietnam’s acts, policies, and practices related to currency valuation” initiated in October of last year.
Although no action is being taken at this time, the press release stated the US “will continue to evaluate all available options.” US Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer said, “I hope that the United States and Vietnam can find a path for addressing our concerns.”
